Feb. 1 Free Write

In the past you could tell who went to college by the way they talked. However, now a days this idea can go both ways. I've been around many young people recently who are enrolled in college or have recently graduated from college who from the way they talk you would never know they've ever been in a college classroom. There is also the other who choose to apply what they have learned to how they communicate with others because sounding educated is important to them.

"Family Conflict"

I come from a family with a minuscule amount of conflict compared to the families of many of my friends. It seems that at least half of my closest friends come from broken families, whose parents have been seperated since they were very young. It seems that as time progresses divorce is becoming more and more common. As mentioned in class during the discussion over this topic, lack of communication was said to be a main cause of seperation of spouses. Why is there such a lack of communication? Considering we currently live in a time where technology has made it possible to constantly be only a text message or phone call away from communicating with someone, lack of communication be the last problem within a marriage.

Fair use/ Copywrite/ Ownership

Many rap/hip hop artists have long been involved in the production of remix's and mashups. Lately, it seems that a lot of the very best artists are only producing songs that have already been heard and simply replacing the lyrics with their own and keeping the same exact beat and chorus. Lil Wayne's most recent work titled "No Ceiling" consists primarily of beats that other artist have worked into head nodding masterpeices with his lyrics. If you listen closley to Lil Wayne's music lately, at the beginning of his songs you will hear the sound of a lighter being ignited and his deep inhilation. This is Wayne's way of quickly inspiring himself and then taking the length of the original song to lyrically murder someone else's beat, almost in an attempt to make the other artists version seem empty and boring. He even often mentions that "your beat's are no longer safe." This is probably not the right thing, however with his one of a kind arrangement of words nobodies complaining. It is also unfortunate that these lyrics that make millions of dollars are followed with the expense of an opiate addiction that will probably cause Weezy to not see 40 years old.

Lottery

If you won the Lottery...
Winning the lottery is something that has crossed my mind periodically as I've gotten older and had more of a interest in money and the power that money holds. My father has bought lottery tickets for as long as I can remember and to tell the truth I sometimes think of what better purpose the money that has been spent on countless lottery tickets over the years could help.
If I did happen to win the lottery I would without doubt choose to accept it anonymously. I would definetly welcome the incredible oppurtunity to help a lot of other people and forever be financially stable. I would also continue with my education here at johnson county. And just like now I would still be unsure on what I wanted to do as far as a career. With that amount of money comes great responsibility and the chance to give without seeking anything in return and that is exactly what I would do. If I were to hit the lottery, many many other people would hit the lottery as well. I would not become lazy, nor would I quit being goal oriented. That said, at the end of the semester theres no doubt I wouldn't be sitting on a white sandy beach with a cold corona in hand, surrounded by a couple of my best friends and my family to start off the summer.

Tatted Up

Tattoos have become very socially accepted by my generation. I live with three other guys who are very similar to me, however out of the four of us I am the only one without at least one tattoo. I've been known to be easily influenced by my buddies, escpecially when you have four 19 year old college guys living in one apartment with the same interests and priorities in mind. Add a dash of boredom and the chance of a noise complaint or a police officer being close by is very high. As influental as my friends can be at times I can honestly say I will never have a tattoo. It's not that I don't like tattoos, I just don't like them on me. A lot of tatoos I see have a name or initials of a family member or friend that the person is trying to pay respect too. For me, the most influential reason for not getting a tattoo is my family and how negatively they view tattoos.

Students' Right to Their Own Language

"We affirm the students’ right to their own patterns and varieties of language—the dialects of their nurture of whatever dialects in which they find their own identity and style. Language scholars have long ago denied that the myth of a standard American dialect has any validity. The claim that any one dialect is unacceptable amounts to an attempt of one social group to exert its dominance over another. Such a claim leads to false advice for speakers and writers, and immoral advice for humans. A nation proud of its heritage of its diverse heritage and its cultural and racial variety will preserve its heritage of dialects. We affirm strongly that teachers must have the experiences and training that will enable them to respect diversity and uphold the right of students to their own language."

I feel that a nation as culturaly diverse as the United States of America should embrace the idea of many dialects. America screams diversity and is the mother of all places that let you express yourself in ways not usually of the norm.
